Site search: no results

What a visitor sees when a search finds nothing: search terms, categories and products you set up yourself.

When a search finds nothing at all, with no filter applied, the search shows “Nothing found for …”, a tip and, where it helps, “Did you mean …?”. Below that you can help the visitor on. Set it up under Site search → Settings → No results. It works on its own: you can use it without the start page.

Each block has its own switch, a Position (1, 2 or 3), a How many and a heading per language of your websites. Leave the heading empty for the default text in the visitor’s language.

Block Source Display A click
Search terms Popular searches (what visitors searched for and found, updated every night) or a Fixed list buttons searches that term
Categories Best-selling categories (where your best sellers are, weighed by what they sold) or Choose categories from your category tree, by name Links (pills) or Cards with a picture opens the category page on your shop
Products Best sellers or a Fixed list of SKUs Grid or Carousel opens the product, like any result
  • Only categories with a page on your shop are shown, never the top category of your shop and never a category you hide in the filters.
  • Products you exclude under Layout → Start page → Never show are left out here too. A carousel shows as many at a time as the start page’s.
  • With no block on, nothing changes: the start page’s popular searches, when the start page is on.

The blocks sit under “Nothing found” in every layout: the overlay, the shop’s own search bar, the panel under the search box and on a phone. In a narrow panel they are smaller (products as rows), on a phone two products side by side.

They come with the search’s own answer, so they appear together with the message: nothing jumps into view. The lists are kept for ten minutes; saving Settings refreshes them at once.

Clicks in these blocks are counted apart from ordinary result clicks, under Analytics → After no results: products clicked, added to cart, search terms tapped and categories opened. They are not part of the click rate or the A/B test.
